My Very Own Whalien 52 - An Audio Diary

INTRO

October 3rd, 2021.

My second log of an audio diary.

My mind is an exceptional place.

It is full of thoughts that I embrace.

It never stops racing

with all the matters that I’m facing.

It often troubles me at night,

got me thinking that nothing is right.

When this happens, I take out my notes

and write a poem filled with prayers and hopes.

I do not write a lot,

but I do it to tie the knot.

It helps me deal with my emotions,

and often resolves it into notions.

What I'm about to tell you is the latest of my creations

that comes from the deepest part of my imagination.

It speaks of many concerns,

although that's up to you to learn.

So, gather up my friends.

For our journey will know no ends.

I just wish for it to be something you can enjoy

for that will make me sing "ahoy"!

People used to tell me that there are plenty of fish in the sea. Well, despite the decreasing number thanks to our greed and ugly lifestyle, I completely agree with that. Not just fish, there are even more creatures that live in the depths of the ocean, and surely there are some that are more exceptional than the others. Let's just say the most expensive things like the Peppermint Angelfish, one of the most beautiful beings like the Blue Dragon, or the fairy-tale- looking ones like the Narwhal. However, if you think about it again, they aren't the only ones of their kind, are they? Hell, even the rarest, critically endangered sea mammal like the Vaquita still have about 10 of them left while activists are trying extremely hard to save the population.

Now, one day, I stumbled upon a really interesting article while getting lost on the internet, and found this astonishing thing, the 52-Hertz Whale. Said to be the loneliest creature in the deep blue, this one-of-a-kind has been roaming around for decades, searching for a mate. The 52-Hertz Whale is assumed to be the only whale in the world that sung in 52 Hertz, a decibel much higher than any ordinary whale could possibly ever hear. It sings on its accord, even though it is never heard, never understood. This poor fella has even captured the attention of the biggest band on the planet right now, BTS, who even made a song about it.

“Whalien 52” tells the story of loneliness and the inability to be understood by others. It is a portmanteau of the 52-Hertz Whale and alien, which is often viewed as something strange and unearthly, and as a result, it is isolated. It also represents hope that the endless signal will reach someday, everywhere, even to the other side of the earth. It was then that something just clicked inside my brain. Yes, there are certainly a massive number of lives in the sea. But, instead of endlessly taking a taste of the brine and getting sick without assurance, I'd rather seek for that unique one.

OUTRO

So, how did you like my writing? It may sound vague and meaningless, but it is actually a representation of the worries that I have. "My Very Own Whalien 52" is a short essay about love. Yes, you heard me right.

As someone who is just growing up, the topic of romance was certainly one of my interests. I've tried to date several different people in the past year, but as time goes by, I feel like those relationships just overwhelm me. Therefore, this essay appears as an epiphany, saying that instead of “endlessly taking a taste of the brine”, meaning constantly changing partners with someone similar, I’d rather “seek for my very own whalien 52”, the only one that can actually understand and connects with me.

“My Very Own Whalien 52” conveys a hidden meaning behind the concern about the worsening state of nature. It is a form of sarcasm towards humans that destroy nature because of “our greed and ugly lifestyle”. With this writing, I also wanted to provide awareness to protect nature, especially the ocean, for future generations.
